Smelling good is definitely a bonus, there's no need to argue about that.

For which fragrance have you received the most compliments from women?
So far, Bleu de Chanel gave me the most compliments. Dior Sauvage, which is also very hyped, has hardly brought me any compliments.

But I would like to experiment a little. A friend who is very knowledgeable about fragrance told me about "fragrance twins" yesterday.
It is a different flacon and a different company but 1:1 the same composition as the original, often even more intense and longer lasting. He said, the exact same oils are usually used.

Yesterday he showed me the CHOGAN 137, which is supposed to be 1:1 the Naxos XerJoff, but costs 50 $€ instead of 250 $€. The smell was just extremely good, I love it and still smell it on me today, I ordered it straight away.

I will try other twins of very expensive perfumes such as Aventus Creed and pay attention to the feedback. I think it also sets you apart from the run-of-the-mill perfumes that everyone wears.

Million Dollar, the basic one? Idk why I cant upload a photo here but I bought that 5 years ago and still use it. Have received tons of compliments with that.

But I'm getting fed up with the smell haha

I hate to say it but aventus has in my experience, lived up to the hype. I'm not a huge perfume expert, but I've bought it a couple of times in smaller sizes from one of the fragrance resellers (of course get a well rated/legitimate reseller if you go for it).

A sample bottle of 20ml lasted a long time, I reckon around 50 wears but dont quote me on that. I read that folk say that there's significant variation batch to batch, but to my uneducated nose, I couldn't tell the diff. Very long lasting, like I'd smell it on me slightly the next day after only using a couple of sprays.

The reception for aventus was exceptional - I haven't worn a lot of other high end fragrances, but I've tried a couple (inc green irish tweed) and aventus was by far the best for me. Couple of experiences that are fairly representive, all in clubs:

1) A girl walking past and opening me with "I love your smell". Only fragrance I've had that with.
2) Chatting with some girl in smoking area, we're talking, she catches the scent, smells me, then turns to her friends and tells them to come smell me as well. They all loved it.

Of course it's not a miracle thing, like for noobs reading this you still gotta be well dressed etc, and it's not like every night girls will open you on it, but the effect was interesting.

Also things to consider - certain fragrances suit certain people better.

Avoid the ultra-popular ones, esp. when it gets to the point where girls can just guess your perfume correctly. "Is that Dior Sauvage?" that's when I stopped wearing it, even though I got great reactions from it.

Same with One Million. Every girl loves it but also every guy wears it. It was really huge 10-15 years ago, became too popular, now I wear it again because I found a half-empty bottle lying around, and it's cool again. The new generation of girls aren't familiar with it as much.

I used to wear CH Men Privé with an edgy leather jacket look and I got a random hot cashier at the supermarket, that I wasn't even talking to, to randomly compliment my smell. But afaik they don't make that scent anymore which is a huge shame.

Spice Bomb is also great for fall.

Generally you want to pick a perfume based on the season and your fashion style.

There are obvious summer colognes (everything with aqua in the name basically) and some winter/fall colognes that have more of a leathery, tobacco, vanilla type of vibe.

If you're rocking a leather jacket you'd also choose a leathery tobacco perfume and not something fruity or whatever. If you're in a suit & tie, also best to pick something "clean" like JP Gaultier stuff.

I got huge into fragrances a few years back & it's easy to overanalyze -- you need like two fragrances max and don't switch it up often. If you have a signature smell it will make girls remember you.

Also getting compliments doesn't necessarily mean much; the girl is already into you and complimenting your cologne is just a good way for them to give you a compliment. Don't put too much stock into it. At most it's a form of peacocking where it can give girls an excuse to open you, but there are a million other ways to do that too.

Cologne is like a 1% part of good style. Get it done in an afternoon and then move on to more needle moving work

The type thing is legit, so many people are hyping Dior Sauvage, I had used it on so many dates but never received a compliment. But for example Bleu de Channel gives me so many compliments.

The Fragrance has to fit the occasion, season, sytle and type. We were talking to another guy last night, a total perfume expert. He knew everything, but was dressed like a teenager, it didn't fit at all.

I just bought 3 ml samples of the "Dupes/fragrance twins" and will be testing them with different women over the next few days/weeks:
  • Acqua di Giò - Armani
  • Aventus - Creed
  • Baccarat Rouge 540 - Maison Francis Kurkdjian
  • Ombre Nomade - Louis Vuitton
  • Eros - Versace
  • La Nuit de L'Homme - Yves Saint Laurent
  • Tobacco Vanille - Tom Ford
  • Oud Wood - Tom Ford

Exactly, I will experiment with different 3ml samples and find the best signature scent for myself that not every other guy uses.

"Compliments" is a meme in fragrance communities and for good reason: it's a myth.

Never received a compliment in my life about a scent.

Girls give compliments when you're attractive but it's a social faux paux to compliment you about your looks.

For which fragrance have you received the most compliments from women?
Teakwood mahogany by Bath and Body works, by far.

Used to drive Uber/Lyft and spray some of this before passengers got in, and the shit women would say was insane:
"It smells like sex in here!"
"Your car smells soooo good!"
"Is that teakwood mahogany?!? I'm addicted to it!"
"Somebody's getting fucked tonight!"
"You smell like a high class male escort"

It's a scent that a lot of women have as a candle in their bedroom, and some probably even have it burning while they masturbate, so it's an easy way to create an instant, familiar and comfortable sexual association.

If you're unsure where to start you can also just ask a girl to pick one out for you
(my fiancée is the one who picked teakwood mahogany for me)

Completely agree with this.

I had a girl act so sad and confused once when I didn't smell the same, because she had one of my unwashed shirts and would smell it in between my visits

Find one that works for you and stick with it, especially with a girl who has already smelled you

YSL la nuit de lhomme is the only one Ive had compliments from, but girls can only smell it up close.

Dior Sauvage is like the most overused scent ever lol.

Btw lifehack for perfume/cologne: Buy samples on ebay. You never need a full bottle.

Technically woman's I suppose, but I like Michael Kors sexy ruby. Lmfao.

I feel perfume is unisex though. Is there really a such thing as women's scents? To me, it's all about marketing.

Agree! I caught the fraghead virus last year and realized too late that you never need a full bottle. You can also get samples on online decanter shops like scentsplit--it's more expensive per ml than a full bottle, but you still end up paying less.

Agree. Fragrance is a fashion item, same as a necktie or a jacket. Same as you wouldn't wear a necktie on an American Eagle t-shirt, you wouldn't wear Creed's Bois du Portugal on a wifebeater.

I hear the idea but I like switching frag so much I'm gonna pass on that. To me it feels like wearing the same shirt on every date so that girls remember me by my shirt.

I don't wear cologne and generally try to get unscented deodorant. If pheromones are actually a thing, then I'm trying to do the least amount possible to cover those.

However I do use beard oil, which is subtle enough that you have to be very close to smell. I'll plug Beardbrand's Old Money and Four Vices. Their Spiced Citrus was pretty good too, but I don't think they make it anymore. I've been complimented though when I've used just coconut oil and natural beeswax. Girls just like the smell when laying on my beard while cuddling or smelling it my mustache when kissing. But I've had girls just straight stick their face in my beard.

Summer: Nautica Voyage
Winter: Dior Sauvage* and Spicebomb

All Round: Armaf Club De Nuit Intense - 95% like Creed Aventus with about 25% of the price.

Picked up a good Summer Woody Parfum fragrance from a local brand in Thailand here today.

I have heard really good things about Lataffa brand and their clones of the top end designer fragrances which I intend to explore a little for my next purchase.

But Pancake Mouse is right, it's more an extension of how much a girl is into you anyway if you get compliments on it. As long as it smells decent and you like it, and isn't too wrong for the season (e.g. dark musky woody smoky scents dont go that well for a summer beach day for example) you're golden.

*Switching out Sauvage next winter for something else.

Stronger with you Intensely by Armani from 2021. Hope they did not changed it.

I got a lot of compliments directly on the scent. Compared to multiple YSL’s that I love and other brands where I got almost none.

It is pretty sweet and more like a night date vibe fragrance.

I bought it after a girl who works with fragrances and I know here since forever. Told me she wants to bite guys who wear it.

It even got to a point where one chick at some birthday party told me to write it down. Then send me a pic from the shop as she was buying it for her boyfriend. Pic attached

All my plates that I had & my main girl now prefer it over any other fragrance that I own.

Grabbed it from the local BnB. Praise the Lord they got it in 15ml version. If every brand selling fragrance would align themselves to that format I'd be buying more, I love the diversity and, given the number of bottles I already have, I won't buy any full ones before long.

I've used same fragrance for decades. For curiosity, went out to local mall to smell this and oh my, thats so good! It was that Absolutely version though, they will have it on 40% sale next week.

The problem is that I think that scent is way over used if I can find it from my local mall....

A great opinion opener, especially in the spot you're shopping for frag: "how familiar are you guys with men's fragrances? Is there like one or two you've smelled so often you now think it's overused?"

I've been looking for a new scent to wear on the regular as all my Christmas gifted colognes from 15 years ago have run out (YSL which I liked, and Locoste) and all I have left is my versace eros which I think is too strong for daily wear.

Ironically, while in Italy I tried a few in a pharmacy and one I and BB really liked I took a photo of. I found this thread a week later, looked at the photo and it turned out to be the same one: Armani You Intensly.

I'm trying to find it on the cheap so if you boys see any online sales in Europe do share

Tried to find this today and online, doesn't seem to be stocked anymore I dont think.
