Please rate my Tinder and tell me what you think I should do differently.

Well you look like a nice average guy.

You want to look above average. Good thing is you just need some better quality pics in good clothes with better locations. Follow the tinder guide in the main website, find someone with a dslr and start experimenting.

Oh and don’t just use tinder, hinge has been way better for me these past few weeks.

Thanks for your response. I was thinking of hiring a tinder photographer, what do you think about that? Do they use DSLR cameras?

Someone linked me the guide and that’s how I got to these forums; I made this post at the section saying to make the post. I’m going to read the entire guide because tinder has been difficult. Thanks again

Edit: forgot to say, I’m on bumble and hinge too. Not to be rude, but hinge has almost only obese women in my area, which I’m not interested in. I still go on from time to time but don’t put as much time into swiping there, but it’s a good tip as I understand different girls are on different apps sometimes and may not be on tinder.

That'll change once your pictures improve

So what it shows changes based on that? I guess that makes sense. I don’t swipe right (hit the like button) so I guess it’ll change once my algorithm improves, thanks

Yeah pretty much. The first few days it took me an hour to get through the 10 likes, then it got less and less till I was done in a few minutes

Yup, a good photographer will use a dslr. Although if you have a buddy willing to take pics for you (and you for him) I would get a camera and just do it myself. It’s nice taking it with me and having it for random shoots. One of my best pics came from a drunk 4AM night in Chinatown lol.

For me, the best way to start was just find a picture you like and copy it. If you have your own camera you can experiment. Welcome to the forums btw!

And yeah, I hear you about hinge. When I use it to swipe there’s mostly women I’m not attracted to, but for some reason when I boost I get a handful of high quality matches. Last week I boosted, got around a dozen likes. 5 of them were hot, and I have dates set up with 3 of them so far. Bumble is terrible for me lol, never anything good.

I used to never use bumble because I was too insecure and thought they wouldn’t message first. Now the matches message first but still won’t really set a date. I’m asking some tinder girl to take pictures of me since she flaked on me and is into photography. Not sure if that’s weak, gonna ask around and cancel if it is.

That’s great you’ve got 3 dates lined up. I’ll have to try doing a boost on there, I’ve only done tinder boosts and maybe a bumble boost before. Good luck on your dates and thanks for welcoming me to the forums.

Aren’t dslr cameras expensive? Ones I found were minimum 400

Keep working on your pics and you’d be surprised, I got asked out for the first time this week. About the girl that flaked, if she’s down to shoot for you, take advantage of it. If not, no sweat you have options.

New cameras are expensive, my eos r was 900 plus the lens. You can always get a used slightly older camera for a lot cheaper though, and the picture quality will be almost as good. Thinking long term though, if you were to hire a photographer you’d end up paying more in the long run. There’s no way you’ll get enough range in one session. So shop around, or find someone with a camera you can borrow.

You’re right about the cost in the long term - the photographer I called a couple weeks ago wanted to charge like $200.

Come to think of it, my dad got into photography like ten years ago. He didn’t really stick with it though so I don’t know if he still has the camera but if so he’d let me borrow it or give it to me. Not sure if that’s DSLR but I’ll see anyway.

That’s cool you got asked out, must be a good feeling.

That'll change once your pictures improve

I’ve noticed with Hinge too, if you’re not immediately successful it likes to put you in a place I call “the pen”. It’ll show you several hundred unattractive women back to back.

Once you realize you’re there just be prepared to hammer on the “no” button for an hour or so and you’ll be fine after

Some notes on the pictures

I’d get rid of 2 and 4 immediately.

While you’re working on getting a camera, pick up a tripod and some fashionable clothes (check out Radical’s style guide if you’re not sure where to start) and practice. If you have a decent enough phone you might actually end up with a few good shots. At least some improvements to what you have. If not, you’ll still be much more comfortable with taking your own pictures by the time you have the proper gear.

Thanks man, previously I’d have just given up lmao. Now I can put the work in since I’ve found out that other people who have had these struggles have overcome them.

Thanks for the tips. So I should take my own pictures with a tripod? They make them for phones? I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max, not sure if it’s the best camera but should do for now I think.

Get rid of the photo with the unkempt beard and closed off body language.

Get rid of the fucking car selfie (beard looks way better)

Get rid of the photo of you sitting in a sports bar on your phone; the image you're conveying in that photo is that you're average and boring.

Get a mirrorless camera or DSLR, some new threads, and take better photos that convey the overlap between your true self and something that your target audience will get excited about.

Yep, they’re standard tripods with spring mounts that your phone clips into.

You’ll need a Bluetooth remote shutter too. Those are super cheap. I set a 3s timer and hide mine in my pocket.

I got the 12 Pro specifically for the camera, it’s not DSLR quality of course but it exceeded my expectations. Nice clear detail at short range, the adjustable aperture in portrait mode is handy and night photos are a huge improvement over the 10. You can definitely get some useable shots with it with practice

And are you saying that the beard in the car selfie looks better (despite the picture being a bad one) or that the longer beard looks better?

Get a mirrorless camera or DSLR, some new threads, and take better photos that convey the overlap between your true self and something that your target audience will get excited about.

So basically, keep the paddle board one and then take new ones with a new camera, following the rest of your tips?

And are you saying that the beard in the car selfie looks better or that the longer beard looks better? I know the car selfie has to go but curious which beard you were saying looks better.

Thanks man, I’ll start with that. I talked to my dad about his old camera and he still has it but you have to have the pictures developed (so I guess it’s not a dslr), but I found out the picture in my tinder was taken with portrait mode (was an iPhone 12 Pro Max). Now I see how much my pictures were a problem - I never experimented with that stuff and that first picture in the queue on my tinder has gotten me more matches, and that was just one in a restaurant which does make me look boring.

Thanks for the help, feeling optimistic.

I have the same phone, the cameras pretty capable in daylight. Use portrait mode to get that blur effect, but since it’s digital sometimes the background doesn’t get blurred right and there’s visible errors. (Also don’t bother shooting anything in lower light, it just can’t perform well). It’s not a bad place to start, but ultimately it won’t beat a proper camera.
